PREVENT: Managing Your Money courses
We run seminars and workshops across the conurbation to strengthen people’s understanding of how to make more of their money. Information is given about benefits entitlement, money-saving ideas, financial and pension support that is available and useful contacts within the local community
“Can I just say the workshop was fantastic this afternoon.
The students really enjoyed it and it really got them talking and thinking. I’ve said to some of the other tutors to try and book their groups into this session for the future”
We are currently running courses at the following locations
Bournemouth and Poole College: MM runs a financial capability course for all 1st year students at both college sites. This covers all student courses from trainee air hostesses to apprentice plumbers as well as students with special educational needs. The course includes personal budgeting, managing money and keeping out of debt. MM will also run a special course for all new under-graduates at their Fresher’s Week.
Probation Service and YMCA: MM runs classes at the local Probation Service and the local YMCA homeless hostel; in both places, we provide a customised course relevant to the needs of the client group focusing on personal budgeting, money management, and addressing debt problems. Our MM team is then available to take referrals for clients who have financial problems.
Children Centres: In conjunction with local children’s centres, MM presents a customised money management course which includes family budgeting and benefits. As above, our MM team is then available to take referrals for families who have financial problems.
Schools: We provide an interactive, multi-media financial capability programme with workshop and group work activities for schools. We successfully trialled this in 2016, and a number of local secondary schools are interested in this programme for both 6th form and other year groups.
The “Golden Group”: We are also happy to give talks to fellowship groups and lunch clubs covering subjects such as changing energy suppliers, water grants, inheritance tax, saving energy costs and benefits.
