FOCUS: befriending unpaid carers

‘The world would be a happier place if all days were like today’

At the 2011 census, over 30,000 people in Bournemouth and Poole identified themselves as unpaid carers looking after loved ones – we couldn’t do without them, but sometimes carers need a bit of help themselves.

Faithworks’ FOCUS project is there to “walk alongside” people as they care, giving them space to talk, and a way-in to activities that can build their self-confidence and social network.

‘Chief Cook and Bottle Washer’ is a film created by the Bournemouth University PIER partnership and 11 male carers over the age of 85.  Carers share their insights on being an older carer; how life has changed and their key messages for practitioners.
