FOCUS: befriending unpaid carers
‘The world would be a happier place if all days were like today’
At the 2011 census, over 30,000 people in Bournemouth and Poole identified themselves as unpaid carers looking after loved ones – we couldn’t do without them, but sometimes carers need a bit of help themselves.
Faithworks’ FOCUS project is there to “walk alongside” people as they care, giving them space to talk, and a way-in to activities that can build their self-confidence and social network.
‘Chief Cook and Bottle Washer’ is a film created by the Bournemouth University PIER partnership and 11 male carers over the age of 85. Carers share their insights on being an older carer; how life has changed and their key messages for practitioners.

We match up carers with one of our volunteers to meet and chat at home or in a local meeting point; we also have a telephone befriending team

Every few months we run an event for all our carers and their loved ones – we like to link up with local schools, like the students from St. Aldhelm's Academy who put on a Christmas musical celebration...
