FOCUS project: Befrienders

We match carers with one of our volunteers to meet and chat at home or in a local meeting point such as a café; we also have a telephone befriending team

How does it work

  1. Need support?: If you or someone you know would benefit from a visit or regular calls from a volunteer befriender, then give us a call

  2. Our Team: One of our team will call you back

  3. Referral: We’ll ask for contact details, and a little bit of information about the carer and the person being cared for (so that we can check if we can help)

  4. First call: Then we’ll get in touch with the carer to arrange a first visit

  5. First visit: At that first visit, your Contact Worker will explain in more detail the service you can expect from us and answer any questions you may have. We’ll try to get to know you a bit more, finding out if there is some immediate support that you need, and what sort of befriender would be best for you – so this appointment may involve some paperwork

  6. Regular contact & support: We’ll then try to find the right person for you while keeping in contact with information on events and activities that might help

*Please be aware there may be a waiting list for our home visit Befriending service – if you or a friend would like to give an hour every fortnight to befriending a carer please get in contact
